Can a rotary flow meter be used as a softened water flow meter?

Softened water refers to removing most of the calcium, magnesium and other hardness ions in the water through a specific treatment process, such as ion exchange or reverse osmosis, thereby reducing the hardness of the water. This kind of water is not easy to produce soap scum with soap, and is more suitable for washing, heating systems, boiler feed water and certain industrial production processes. It can effectively prevent equipment scaling and corrosion and extend the service life of equipment.

Runner (impeller) flow meters are a common choice for measuring volumetric flow of demineralized water. The following is an introduction to the use of runner flowmeters for softened water measurement:

Runner flowmeters, also known as impeller flowmeters, work based on the impact of fluid on the impeller when flowing. When fluid passes through the flowmeter, the kinetic energy of the fluid drives the impeller to rotate, and the rotational speed of the impeller is proportional to the speed of the fluid flowing through the flowmeter. By detecting the rotation frequency of the impeller, the flow rate of the fluid can be calculated.

Advantages in softened water applications:

Especially where precise monitoring of softened water flow is required to ensure efficient operation of equipment or for cost control, such as boiler makeup, cooling systems or water treatment process monitoring, rotary flowmeters are an ideal choice. Therefore, the runner flowmeter can be called a type of softened water.
