Choosing an orifice plate or vortex flowmeter for steam flowmeter?

Time: 2024-12-24
Equipment Configuration:vortex flowmeter

Orifice plate flowmeter measurement is stable and reliable, high accuracy but high pressure loss; vortex flowmeter pressure loss is small, wide range, less maintenance, suitable for wide range measurement. Selection should be considered comprehensively application requirements, working conditions and cost budget.

Project Overview

When choosing a steam flow meter, orifice flow meters and vortex flow meters each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and are suitable for different application scenarios. The following are some reference factors:

Orifice flow meter:

  • Works based on Bernoulli's equation and throttling principle, the measurement is stable and reliable, and is often used in scenarios such as heating stations.
  • For steam (including superheating). For the measurement of steam and saturated steam), the orifice plate can provide higher accuracy, especially when used in strict accordance with the national standard calculation formula.

  • However, the orifice plate flow meter has disadvantages. Large pressure losses may require more maintenance.

Vortex flowmeter:

  • Based on the principle of fluid oscillation, it has the advantages of small pressure loss, wide measuring range (up to 1:30), and low maintenance requirements.

  • Integrated temperature and pressure sensors can be used. Perform temperature and pressure compensation to improve measurement accuracy.

  • Suitable for scenarios where low operating costs, wide range measurement, and pressure loss in pipeline systems are desired.

Summary:

  1. If you have strict requirements on measurement accuracy and are not particularly sensitive to pressure loss and maintenance, you can choose an orifice flowmeter.

  2. If you want to reduce Energy consumption, simplifies installation and maintenance, and has a wide measurement range, the vortex flowmeter may be a better choice, especially in situations where long-term stable operation and cost control are required.

The final selection should be based on specific application requirements, working conditions (such as steam type, pressure, temperature, flow range, etc.), cost budget and whether temperature and pressure compensation is required and other factors are taken into consideration.
