Magnetic inductive flow meters are a better choice for measuring sulphuric acid flow, but attention must be paid to the following issues:

  • 1. Highly concentrated sulphuric acid is strongly hygroscopic and has strong corrosive and oxidising properties. At room temperature concentrated sulphuric acid passivates metals such as iron and aluminium. When heated, concentrated sulphuric acid can react with all metals except gold and platinum to produce high-valent metal sulphates, which themselves are generally reduced to sulphur dioxide. Dilute sulfuric acid can react with most metals (more active than copper) and the vast majority of metal oxides, generating the corresponding sulfate and water; therefore, the choice of electromagnetic flowmeter for flow measurement, the metal parts in contact with the medium must be used in sulfuric acid corrosion-resistant products such as tantalum, platinum and so on.
  • 2. Because concentrated sulfuric acid has strong oxidising properties, and rubber has unsaturated bonds, which can react with concentrated sulfuric acid, the rubber will swell, slowly dissolve and lose the physical properties of rubber, so the electromagnetic flowmeter lining can not use ordinary rubber. Although nitrile rubber and fluoroelastomer acid and alkali resistance are good, but the flow measurement is a long-term immersion type of contact, time will occur after a long time or physical property changes. According to the long-term experience of actual use, electromagnetic flowmeter lining selection of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) material or polyperfluoroethylene propylene (F46) material is more ideal.
