1. Determine the medium to be measured
Vortex flowmeters are suitable for gases, liquids, steam, etc. A variety of media, but the following should be noted:
(1) High viscosity media: For media with excessive kinematic viscosity, such as some high-viscosity oils (such as heavy oil), the vortex flowmeter may not be suitable .
(2) Steam type: If the measured medium is steam, it needs to be clear whether it is saturated steam or superheated steam, because the density and flow characteristics of steam will be affected by temperature and pressure.
2. Determine the flow range
(1) Reasonability of the flow range: First determine whether the flow range is reasonable, that is, whether it exceeds the measurable range of the vortex flowmeter. If it exceeds the limit, you can consider reducing or expanding the diameter. However, it should be noted that the diameter should not be too large to avoid affecting the measurement accuracy and the service life of the flow meter.
(2) Minimum flow rate and measurement value: For the measurement of small flow rates, it is necessary to analyze whether it has measurement value, because the vortex flowmeter may not work stably at small flow rates.
3. Consider working conditions
(1) Vibration interference: Vortex flowmeters are susceptible to vibration interference. Well-designed vortex flowmeters can process them through hardware and digital signals. to eliminate interference. (3) Installation location: Avoid installing the vortex flowmeter on a very long overhead pipeline to avoid seal leakage caused by sagging of the flowmeter. If installation is unavoidable, pipe fastening devices must be installed upstream and downstream of the flow meter.
IV. Temperature and Pressure
(1) Temperature of the measured medium: The temperature range of the vortex flowmeter is generally -40℃~350℃ (depending on the model and specification) ), it is necessary to ensure that the temperature of the measured medium is within this range.
(2) Nominal pressure: The nominal pressure of the vortex flowmeter also needs to be selected according to actual needs, such as diameter ≥ DNThe nominal pressure of a 200mm flowmeter is generally 2.5MPa, and the nominal pressure of a flowmeter with a diameter ≤ DN150mm can reach 4.0MPa.
5. Output signal and power supply
(1) Output signal: The output signal of the vortex flowmeter includes voltage pulse, current signal (such as 4~20mA) and digital communication signal (Such as Modbus RS485) etc. The appropriate output signal type needs to be selected according to actual needs.
(2) Power supply: The power supply of the vortex flowmeter is generally 12~24VDC or 36V lithium battery, etc. The appropriate power supply method needs to be selected according to the site conditions.
6. Other factors
(1) Protection level: Select the appropriate IP protection level according to the installation location of the vortex flowmeter to ensure its stable operation in harsh environments.
(2) Explosion-proof requirements: When used in flammable and explosive situations, explosion-proof vortex flowmeters need to be selected to meet safety requirements.
